Making Music

The physical and mental demands of practising and performing

This strand of Musical Impact studies the physical and mental demands of music making and training using cutting edge physiological monitoring equipment.

The research places rehearsal and performance under investigation, documenting their physical and mental demands and the characteristics of musicians who successfully meet those demands. Physiological and biomechanical assessments will be made during  practice and performance, including the recording and analysis of muscle activity and the monitoring of energy expenditure.

Making Music began in September 2014 and will run until the end of August 2017.
